- For arthritis of the hand(s) try saturating cotton gloves with castor oil and wrap with plastic wrap then apply warm heating pad. (Same warning for hands if you are diabetic or have circulation problems)
- Olive oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. Take one (1) tablespoon of extra Virgin Cold pressed olive oil at night. (Not the best tasting, follow with small amount of juice). Keep in mind that olive oil is fat. (May not be a good option if on a low fat or fat restricted diet. One tablespoon of oil is usually 12 grams of fat, could be as much as 14 grams. Try reducing or cutting out other dietary fats). (It may take a week or two but what a difference it makes. Waking up without pain or stiffness).
- Paraffin wax bath for hands. (Check with physician first). (Stores like Bed Bath & Beyond often have coupons. Look for sales at other stores Check customer reviews online).
- Tart cherry juice provides pain relief for some people. (Organic juice is available at supermarkets in their health food section, COSTCO and Whole Foods). Added on February 22, 2020).
- It is purported that blending equal parts of fresh pineapple and cucumber, and water may help to rebuild cartilage. Add one small apple and a small piece of fresh ginger peeled and grated. Strain and drink. (Ginger is helpful for persons who experience discomfort (gas) from cucumber). It’s refreshing! Drink one glass two times a week and increase to once a day.
- [Twenty-five years ago, my mother's orthopedic specialist recommended glucosamine and chondroitin. He said many patients got relief and no Rx required to purchase it. He told her he would not benefit financially but it was worth her exploring. It worked for her.
- There are also a variety of over the counter (OTC) topical preparations that might provide relief. Important to read the ingredients carefully before use and always consult with your physician).
