Back to School Mercy
Lamentations 3: 21-23 NCVI have hope when I think of this: The Lord’s love never ends; his mercies never stop. They are new every morning;
It’s the beginning of a new school year and everywhere around us we see “new”!
God talks about a different kind of new-new mercy. New mercy means God isn’t remembering what we should have done yesterday, and didn’t. His new mercy isn’t worn thin by the things we did wrong in the past-making fun of a teacher, ignoring a little brother’s request for help, procrastinating on an assignment and turning it in late-again.
Every morning God hands us a fresh notebook of mercy with blank lines that have no record of our mistakes. His faithfulness is so great! That undeserved love means every day begins with hope that today is going to be different.
What if we showed mercy like that? What if the sting of the sarcastic remark flung our way yesterday, or the misunderstanding and tension with our mom and dad wasn’t carried over to today because we’re doing what God does and handing them new mercy every morning. What would life be like then?
Dear God, your faithfulness is so great! Your love never ends. Every day you give me new mercy. I want to do the same! Amen.
